What a first week back it’s been! It is also the last term before the Summer Holidays!
The weather has changed almost every day but the children are working just as hard as ever.
Our Key Stage 2 classes have been out swimming every day this week and have enjoyed every single second of it, getting better and more confident in the pool which each session they’ve had.
Our assembly theme was on World Environment Day and World Ocean’s Day, explaining why these are vital to our planet and eco system. The character focus was on Courage and Compassion.
Next week is Healthy Eating week and the children will be focusing on Kindness and Determination.
Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day. Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street, the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children.
We’ve hardly taken a breath since the last Y1/2 blog.
We have been very busy continuing their observations in Science.
Before half term, we planted grass seeds but unfortunately, they didn’t grow. We have been busy evaluating why that might have happened, discussing whether the seed had enough sunlight and water and have come to the conclusion that the plants probably weren’t watered enough so we are going to work scientifically and run the investigation again.
We have also been classifying plants, looking at the different trees around the academy and enjoyed going on a tree hunt.
We found sycamore, birch, rowan and elder. In order to identify them we look for outstanding features such as leaf shape, trunk colour and whether the tree had berries.
We were really wired to spend a full day designing and making our own finger puppet. The sewing part was tricky but there was lots of determination, perseverance, patience and resilience shown by all. Have a look at our designs and see what think.
It’s been a very festive few week as we also learnt about Alberto Giacometti and the sculptures he made. We observed how the body moves and then used pipe cleaners as an armature and wrapped it in tin foil to relate our own version of the sculptures
Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?
You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.
It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends and will resume after Half Term.
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.45am each day of their absence.
You can contact the office on 01642 453374.
This weeks best attendance goes to…..
7.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained
This week we had 71 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Fantastic!
A huge WELL DONE to you all.
Can you get 100% next week?
Our lunches are provided on a 3 week rota. When we return it will be Week 2.
A reminder to all parents we are a Nut Free Academy, please read below.
Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.
All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
