At Wilton Primary Academy, experiences in Geography develop a curiosity about the world and people that are in it. It explores how they are both interdependent and connected, with clear relationships between human and physical environments, allowing pupils to communicate the impact locally, regionally and globally. Alongside this, our curriculum explores and uses our locality to allow our children to investigate, enquire about and recognise their own place in the world.

Implementation

  • Geography is taught based on the National Curriculum for Years 1 to 6 and the EYFS Curriculum Framework
  • Children explore geography through the strands: location and place knowledge; fieldwork; map skills, human and physical geography and enquiry
  • A carefully planned whole school progression of geographical knowledge ensures children have and the opportunity to revisit and remember previous learning in order to develop an understanding of the world around them.
  • Knowledge organisers outline the key new knowledge for each unit and the prior knowledge needed for pupils to make meaningful connections to new learning

Progression within the areas of map and atlas work, enquiry and fieldwork are set out within the Geography Knowledge Sequencing Document available in the academy.
