At Wilton Primary Academy, good relationships are fundamental to our ethos and our success in being a happy, caring and safe school. Relationships and Health Education is lifelong learning about relationships, emotions, looking after ourselves, different families and puberty. We aim for our children to acquire the appropriate knowledge, develop their skills and form positive beliefs, values and attitudes. Relationships has a key part to play in the personal, social, moral and spiritual development of pupils. Our RSE curriculum aims to develop positive values and a moral framework that will guide pupils’ decisions, judgements and behaviour as they move into adolescence and adulthood. Pupils will understand the consequences of their actions and behave responsibly within all relationships. They will develop the confidence and self-esteem to value themselves and others and to have respect for individual conscience and the skills to judge what kind of relationships they want.

Implementation

  • RSE is taught based on the Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education Statutory Guidance and the EYFS Curriculum Framework but is also embedded in other areas of the curriculum and day-to-day life of the school
  • A carefully planned whole school curriculum promotes the progression of RSE knowledge and offers the opportunity to revisit and remember previous learning in order to embed knowledge
  • The curriculum is sequenced under the areas of:
    • Relationships (Caring Friendships, Respectful Relationships, Families and People who care for me, Being Safe),
    • Health (Mental Wellbeing, Being Safe and Physical Health)
  • Puberty and Sex Education is delivered through a whole academy approach using resources from the Christopher Winter Project
  • Online Safety is taught termly through our E-Safety document as part of our Computing Curriculum
  • Knowledge organisers outline the key new knowledge for each unit and the prior knowledge needed for pupils to make meaningful connections to new learning
  • TVEd Relationships Education Long Term Plan Download
