Wilton Expects Focus

What a first week back we’ve had. It’s great to see everyone back and so eager for the new term.

The assembly theme was welcoming everyone back for the summer term and the children showed determination to work as hard as ever.

Next week’s focus will be on Independence

Y1/2 Miss Bass Class Round up

Since or last blog the children in Year 1 and 2 have been very busy.

In English the children have been writing a report on dragons where the designed their own dragon and wrote about where it lives, what it eats and what it looks like. They also re-wrote a story based on the book How to Catch a Dragon. In this piece the children used the structure of the book to write their own story where they focused on describing their favourite dragon and characters from the book.

Last half term in RE the children learnt about why Easter is important to Christians. We learnt the Easter story including the Last Supper, Good Friday and Palm Sunday.

So far this term in RE the children have been learning what parables teach Christians. We have discussed what the bible is and why it is important to Christians and learnt there are two parts of the bible – the Old Testament and New Testament. We have focused on the Old Testament and learnt about the story Noah’s Arc and revisited the Last Supper from the New Testament.

In the last 4 weeks we have been busy in maths.

In year 1 we have been learning about money, finding half and a quarter of a shape or quantity.

In Year 2 the children have been learning about money including how to found an amount and find change from an amount.

They have also been finding a quarter, half, and third of a shape. So far this half term we have revisited addition and subtraction of one and two digit and two and two digit numbers.

In PE the children have been doing tennis. During their time with Sophie the sports coach they have learnt a range of skills such as balancing the ball while moving around and bouncing the ball and catching it without it falling off the racket.

In computing the children in Year 1 have been learning how to programme a Beebot using directional language. They also used Beebots on the IPad to go through mazes.

In Year 2 the children have been using Scratch Junior to move a character from one side of the screen to the other.

At the end of last term we had a special treat where the author Chris Naylor-Ballesteros read one of his books to us over zoom. After this session we read one of our favourite books of his in class.

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning? You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school.

This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.

This will continue in the new term.
