Wilton Expects Focus

The weather’s changing, days are getting warmer and it’s Half Term (Hooray!).

There has been lots of learning since we returned after Christmas. The Choir are learning the songs for Shrek the Musical.

All of our classes have been able to take part in some amazing activities outside of the Academy.

Our Early Years group took part in the Balance Festival, while Year 1/2 had a great time at the Fundamental Movement Skills event. Most recently Year 3/4 took part in the Net & Wall event, which you can see below.

The Assembly theme this week was on British Values and how important they are to each of us. The character focus was on Co-operation and Collaboration.

After Half-term it’s World Book Day and we’ll all learn about the children’s, and teachers, favourite authors and stories. The Character focus is on Kindness and Compassion.

We hope everyone has a wonderful half term week and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 3rd March when we return.

A Message about Attendance

8.30am Gates open
8.35am Staff come outside and lines begin to go in.
8.40am. School starts. Arrival after this time is classed as late.
8.41 am- 9.10am Children receive a late mark in the register. L code
9.11am onwards -Children receive a U code which classes the lateness as an unauthorised half day absence. This will affect  their attendance percentage.

We appreciate at times lateness may be due to a medical appointment. If medical evidence is seen, an  M-code is used instead of a U code.  This will authorise the absence, although the attendance percentage will still be affected.

Any 5 days of unauthorised absence in a 10 week rolling period will trigger a phone call and the start of involvement from the attendance team across Wilton and Dormanstown.

This can be combination of U-codes or full day absence.

From Monday, you will receive a weekly text message from the Department of Education stating how  many days absence your child has had this year. Please keep this to times your child is genuinely too ill to come to school.

Please help your child have the best start to the day by being on time. If you need any support or have  any questions then please contact the Academy to discuss it.

Class Dojo

Don’t forget to see reminders and stories about what your child is learning in school from Class Dojo.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

Parking around the School

Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day.  Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street,  the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children.

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?

You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends and will continue after half term.

Attendance

Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.40am each day of their absence.

Please note if your child is later than 9.10am, it is counted by the DfE as a half day absence.

You can contact the office on 01642 453374.

This weeks best attendance goes to…..

Missed Learning

7.5 day of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 57 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Amazing!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round Up

This half term, year 3 / 4 have worked extremely hard in all areas of the curriculum.

In writing we have written a recount about a school trip we have previously been on, with some added details for humour. A Kenning Poem, whereby teachers were asked to guess the animal they had written about. Finally, we have created a mystery story, each of our stories have been different and have a different ending and a picture has been created digitally to represent what we have written about.

In reading, we have read some Kenning Poems and loved guessing what they were talking about and the children even asked myself to find and read some more so they could guess what they were describing. We have also read ‘Krindlekrax’ and have thoroughly enjoyed the story learning about the life of Ruskin Splinter and how he overcome his fears to be the real hero at the end of the story with some sad elements along the way!

In maths, we have re-visited place value and calculations, and we are currently focusing on statistics, whereby we need to read and interpret information in tables and use the information to draw conclusions.

In geography, we have learned about rivers, the journey they take from source to mouth, famous world rivers, where they located and some interesting facts about them. Furthermore, why rivers were and are so important and finally why it is important to look after them for future ecosystems.

In R.E, we are learning about Christianity, we have started learning about the Annunciation when Mary found out she was going to give birth Jesus and now we are learning about Advent, the time leading up to Jesus’ birth. We will continue learning about Christianity after half term too.

We have also enjoyed our time at Boggle Hole and we can’t wait to share all of the photos and tell you all about it, in our assembly next half term!
