At Wilton Primary Academy, we value each child as an individual with a unique potential for learning. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. The Year 1/2 staff are Mrs Barron and Ms Collier.
Please see the information below which provides you with an overview of the curriculum for the Y1/2 class for the 2024/25 academic year. We regularly feature the learning activities from each class on our weekly blog, so please have a look at this and the academy gallery, together with posts on our social media. Links to all of these pages can be found under the Celebrating Wilton tab.
The children have been busy over the last few weeks. We have started our formal writing lessons and have been writing about fairytales and in particular the three little pigs.
Year 2 have been focusing on the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig and writing their own ending to the story. They have recently started writing instructions on how to build a house out of straw.
We worked practically to see step by step what we needed to include in our instructions and they are taking into account who the audience for this piece of writing might be.
In Maths both year groups have been working with the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Year 2 have been focusing on the difference between grouping and sharing.
In our foundation topic we have enjoyed learning about our local area and trying to remember our address in case we ever get lost. They have been using vocabulary such a
Birds Eye view and learning about compass points using the mnemonic of Naughty Elephants Squirt Water. This also allowed us to get a bit of movement into our day.
I’m sure you will agree it’s been a packed first half term and the children truly deserve their upcoming break.
