The children have been working very hard showing Determination to put on a great show for We Will Rock You!
While those who couldn’t go showed off their hard work learning about Individual Liberty and what it means to British Values
Next week the children will show how helpful they can be while also showing off Independence!
We have been super busy in Year 1 and 2!
In maths the year 1 children have been developing a range of methods to tackle an addition or subtraction calculation. They have been using number lines and partitioning their number to do this. In year 2 the children have been investigating the properties of 3D shapes, learning about the faces, edges and vertices.
In English the children have been re-writing the story Jellybeans for Giants. The children have developed their own word mat of adjectives to use when describing the characters in their story. They have tried really hard to develop their use of punctuation by using question marks and exclamation marks in their writing.
In science we have been learning about plants. In year 1 the children learnt about wild and garden plants, the part of a plant and what they need to grow and survive. In year 2 the children learnt about what a plant grows from. We then planted some bulbs and seeds and predicted how they would grow under different living conditions. We also learnt what a plant needs to survive and the functions of each part of the plant.
In history we have been learning about what life was like for people when the Transporter bridge was built. We looked at transportation, clothing, toys and schooling. Last week we went on a trip to the Land of Iron museum where the children had the opportunity to dress up in the clothing that was used during this time. They also got to experience what schooling was like. We then got to visit the museum and look at a range of artefacts before going into the mine.
In geography we have been learning about the climate, equator and the Polar Regions. The children got their own maps and drew lines across to represent where these were. They then predicted what the weather and climate was like close to these places. We decided we wanted to know more about the climates around the world so we investigated the five main climate zones. The children enjoyed researching the typical climate in these zones.
In PE we have started a new topic of athletics. So far we have learnt a range of skills in running such as long distance, short distance/sprinting, relay races etc. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this. Especially being outside in the warm weather!
Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning? You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school.
This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.
It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.
This will continue in the new term.
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 9am each day of their absence. You can contact the office on 01642 453374.
This weeks winners are………
61 children attained 100% attendance this week, huge well done to all!
Our lunches are provided on a 3 week rota. Next weeks options will be Week 1.
Golf Fore All are offering free sessions every Tuesday and Friday for anyone aged between 6-16 until the end of December.

CBBC are looking for budding young designers aged 10-14 years old, (they must be aged 11 by September 1st 2023)
In each episode we will see young creative minds come together to create bold and colourful outfits reusing, re-claiming and upcycling fabulous fashion by using only vintage, second-hand and sustainable materials.
The children will need to be great designers but do not necessarily have to be great with a sewing machine as they’ll be paired with a creative who can help them cut/sew/stitch/paint their outfits within a few hours!
Please could our parents help to complete the survey on the link below
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/LJKDGD8
Your help to to complete the survey would be appreciated as it provides valuable information on what parents think about childcare throughout the Borough and in particular, highlights areas where parental support for childcare is needed.
As always, your help and support is appreciated.
Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.
All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
