The children have been working on their compassion this week. The focus in assembly was to discuss the Macmillan cancer charity and how we can help and support people affected by cancer.
Next week, we will be looking for lots of examples of teamwork as we focus on determination.
Year 5/6 have had a very busy few weeks.
In Art we have been studying Andy Goldsworthy and looked at how he created ephemeral Land-Art using natural materials where he finds them. We created our own Land-Art and were very proud of our results.
We then went on our year 5/6 residential to Peat Rigg with the year 6 children from Dormanstown. All the children showed great courage and determination to overcome fears and I was very proud of all of them.
We have also taken part in the Redcar and Eston School Sports Partnership Cross Country trials. Phoebe, Riccardo, Mitchell and Joseph gave it their all in the actual trials and giving equal effort were the remainder of the class who took part in the ‘fun run’. Every child completed the course (about a mile long) and were very proud of themselves.
Lunch Menu
Our lunches are provided on a 3 week rota. Next week’s menu will be week 2. Please discuss this with your child to help them with their choices.
Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.
All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
PE Days are:
EYFS – Mrs Wardle – Tuesday
Y1/2 -Mrs Barron – Monday
Y3/4 – Miss Norton – Wednesday
Y5/6 – Mrs Harding – Wednesday
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 9am each day of their absence. You can contact the office on 01642 453374.
Congratulations to the children in Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 this week who all had 100% attendance. Year 5 also had 100% throughout September. Well done to Mrs Barron’s class who had the highest attendance this week with 98.8%, closely followed by Mrs Harding’s class with 98.2%.
You may have seen in our Council newsletter that the Waste and Environment Team launched a competition on Monday running until 21st October, which is open to School Year’s 5 – 9. In partnership with Valpak, three students could win a small prize and secure £250 of funding for their school.
Throughout the year, some year groups will be taking part in National assessments. These are done within the class with familiar adults but they have to be completed at a specific time.
