The children this week have been demonstrating their Independence with their work.
The assembly theme was about the importance of British Values.
When we return from Half term the children will be looking at Collaboration.
Year 5 and 6 have been very busy the last few weeks.
In Art, we have been studying the work and style of Jean Michel Basquiat. We had a great time experimenting with mixing colour using only the primary colours and black and white.
We then thought about the things which made us who we are and our heritage. We practiced our sketching creating a self-portrait and had a lovely afternoon when parents joined us and also sketched our faces.
Our final piece was painted on a wash background using water-based paints but with a self-portrait created in oils as a representation of us. I think you’ll agree – they look great!
We also spent some time thinking about Children’s Mental health last week and how being kind is not only good for other people’s mental health but is actually also good for our own.
We created ‘Hands on Kindness’ and the children ticked off each finger as they achieved their goals.
Finally, in Science we have been looking at our Solar System and how the Earth moves within it.
The children had great fun creating their own solar systems and learning mnemonics to remember the order of the ‘current’ planets – because who knows whether they’ll always be the same!
Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning? You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school.
This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.
It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends. This will resume after Half term.
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 9am each day of their absence. You can contact the office on 01642 453374.
This weeks winners are…………….Y5/6 Congratulations!!
Our lunches are provided on a 3 week rota. When we return the menu will be week 3.
Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.
All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
