It’s been an VERY busy week at the Academy and we still have one week before Christmas!!
On Tuesday the whole Academy attended St Cuthbert’s Church for the Christmas service, with our EYFS and Year 1/2 in their Nativity costumes.
Then on Wednesday we held our Christingle service in school with all the children looking proud with their Christingle oranges.
Thursday was Christmas Jumper day, the children looked amazing in all their Christmas jumpers and outfits and got to have an amazing lunch prepared by our Kitchen staff. Later on we had our Christmas Fayre and we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came along.
Last, but by no means least, this morning our EYFS and Year 1/2 classes performed their Baarmy Bethlehem Nativity show and they were all amazing!
Next week is the final week of school before Christmas and maybe things will be calmer, we will have to wait and see.

Any 5 days of unauthorised absence in a 10 week rolling period will trigger a phone call and the start of involvement from the attendance team across Wilton and Dormanstown.
This can be combination of U-codes or full day absence.
From Monday, you will receive a weekly text message from the Department of Education stating how many days absence your child has had this year. Please keep this to times your child is genuinely too ill to come to school.
Please help your child have the best start to the day by being on time. If you need any support or have any questions then please contact the Academy to discuss it.

Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day. Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street, the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children.
Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?

But that’s not all. We had practice sessions for our Year 5/6 children who want to audition for Shrek next Friday and they were sounding great already.
Next week we get into the full festive swing of things as our Choir head off to perform in the TVED Christmas Choir festival at St Nicholas Church on Wednesday and we look forward to hearing them perform.
The Assembly theme this week was about Advent and it’s meaning to different people. The character education was on Reflection and Compassion.
Next week the Assembly theme is on Christingle with the character education on Caring and Determination.

This half term, the children have once again worked incredibly hard in all subject areas.
In English we began reading a non-chronological report about Sweden and Finland and the children really enjoyed learning interesting facts about these countries. We are now in the process of writing a story with a dilemma, the children need to conclude the story making a difficult decision along the way.
In writing, we combined our knowledge from geography to write a non-chronological report about famous human landmarks in England and the United Kingdom. As per our writing, we have started reading a narrative with a dilemma ‘The Selfish Giant’ and so far, the children are not agreeing with the decisions of the giant!
In science, we have been learning about rocks. We have been learning how rocks are formed, what their properties are, and we have looked at some different types of rocks too.
In music, we have continued learning how to play the recorder and we can now play 3 notes and during our music lessons we have even been learning some of the Christmas songs that we will be singing in the Christingle and church services.
In history, we have been learning about the Stone Age and we have discovered these were the first people to exist, we have explored how they survived, how they lived and looked at evidence to back our ideas up to.
In P.E, we have been working on our dance moves and how we can create a sequence incorporating different animals that live in the wild, thinking about how they move, the speed at which they move and even the facial expressions they may have.
In computing, we have created a Stop Motion Video. We created a story about a snowman and then following our story, took a sequence of pictures and then made this into a video.

The children have been very busy in Y1/2 both in the weeks before half term and since returning to school after a well-deserved rest.
Just before we broke up the children took part in a Fundamental Skills Festival at Redcar College. There were lots of activities set up by Young Sports Leaders from some of the Secondary Academies who were really supportive and encouraging. The children got to practice independent and team skills. One of the activities was to use hoops and mats to get across a “crocodile infested swamp” and the children were amazing at working collaboratively to problem solve and use the equipment to get across.
In Science the children have been leaning all about how to stay healthy through good nutrition and hygiene habits. The children explored how germs are passed from person to person by rubbing glitter on their hands and looking where they left a trail of “germs” across the classroom.
We have started our history topic on “What Middlesbrough is like for a child?” This will look at life in the past for our parents and grandparents.
We enjoyed a visit from the Fire Brigade who came to tell us all about staying safe on the 5th of November. We learnt a lot about safety with fireworks.
Some of the year 2 children followed a recipe to make Blueberry and orange soda bread as part of their Reading and Comprehension lessons. Quite a few budding Jamie Oliver’s and the bread turned out beautifully.
In Maths the Y1 children have been exploring finding the difference between numbers working practically by lining up opposite each other and also using towers of multi link blocks.

On Monday we had guests from the Land of Iron museum visit and teach Year 5/6 about the Viking era, the different tools they used and even showed them how to form a shield wall!
On Tuesday we encouraged all of our children to wear different socks for Odd Socks Day and there were lots of mismatched pairs on display.
And of course today is Children in Need and everyone is looking bright colourful and spotty raising money for a great cause.
Last week the assembly theme was on Anti-bullying week with the character education being Kindness and Independence.
Next week is Road Safety Week and the importance of being careful when crossing roads or riding bikes. Character focus is on Co-operation and Collaboration.

We have had a very busy and fun few weeks in Early Years. The children have been learning about people who help us and we have had special visitors come in and help us with this.
The fire brigade brought a fire engine and taught us all about what they do; squirting the hose and sitting inside was very exciting!
We have also had a nurse from A & E visit. She told us all about her job and what happens when you go to hospital. The children got to try out her equipment and put on bandages.
We are looking forward to learning about our teeth and a visit from a dental nurse next week. It has also been a time of cultural celebrations and we have learnt lots about bonfire night, Remembrance Day and Diwali.

The children had a visit from Cleveland Fire Brigade about the importance of staying safe on Bonfire night and the dangers of Fireworks.
The Assembly theme was about Remembrance Day and the importance of the Poppy and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace. The character theme was Courage and Determination.
Next week it’s Anti-Bullying Week with Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November, the character education will be Kindness and Independence and let’s not forget next Friday is Children in Need!
8.30am Gates open
8.35am Staff come outside and lines begin to go in.
8.40am. School starts. Arrival after this time is classed as late.
8.41 am- 9.10am Children receive a late mark in the register. L code
9.11am onwards -Children receive a U code which classes the lateness as an unauthorised half day absence. This will affect their attendance percentage.
We appreciate at times lateness may be due to a medical appointment. If medical evidence is seen, an M-code is used instead of a U code. This will authorise the absence, although the attendance percentage will still be affected.
Don’t forget to see reminders and stories about what your child is learning in school from Class Dojo.
It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.
Year 5/6 had a busy end of term.
The children learned about Andy Goldsworthy in art and created some fantastic pieces of land-art using natural materials.
We were also learning about lifecycles in Science and were fortunate the weather stayed mild enough for us to conduct an ‘observation over time’ of butterflies. We managed to release them on a lovely sunny day.
The children have also attended a Playground Leaders workshop where they learned the skills to set up and run lunchtime activities on the playground.
We also ‘Showed Racism The Red Card’ on the same day we attend a ‘Positive Choices’ workshop around knife crime.
Finally, we all attended a very spooky Halloween Disco.
Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?
You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.
It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.40am each day of their absence.
Please note if your child is later than 9.10am, it is counted by the DfE as a half day absence.
You can contact the office on 01642 453374.

Full detailsWhat a start to the year it has been! So much learning done, lots of trips and fun activities taken part in.
Our choir performed in the Choir festival at St Nicholas church, including our Year 3s who were taking part in their first performance. I’m sure you’ll agree that all the children were amazing.
On Wednesday we had our spooky Halloween Disco with lots of amazing costumes on show and lots of fun had by all. Halloween didn’t stop there though as we had our Halloween lunch on Thursday and our amazing kitchen team put on a frightful feast for the eyes.
That wasn’t the only fun that was had on Thursday as Year 1/2 took part in the Fundamental movement skills festival at Redcar & Cleveland College and had a lot of fun while they were there.
The assembly theme this week was on Guy Fawkes and Bonfire safety, the Character Education was Cooperation and Compassion.
When we return we’ll remember those who gave their lives as we approach Remembrance Day and the children will be showing their own Courage and Determination.
We hope everyone has an amazing Half-term week and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 4th November.
We have noticed an increase in children arriving late this week. This has an impact on learning and also socially, as children do not like walking into the classroom late when everybody has started.

This half term the children have completed their narrative based on the fairytale of Cinderella. The children have started using word classes to improve their description of the setting and characters and they have also begun by learning to use fronted adverbials to enhance the cohesion and flow of their writing. We have recently started writing a set of instructions The children were asked to instruct how the Big Bad Wolf can get to grandma’s house.
In reading, we finished reading a narrative and began our new block of instructions, we are currently reading the instructions to make a gingerbread house, like that of Hansel and Gretel. The children have sketched images to support their reading and understanding of the language that they have read.
In science, we have continued to learn about a healthy diet and how having this supports our muscles, joints and bones. The children have also begun by learning some of the names of the bones in the human body. Further to this, we have started sorting animals in groups according to their skeletons.
The children have also continued learning to play the recorder and have now progressed onto the A and B notes and are beginning to sound fabulous – especially when we have the air holes covered!
In geography, we have begun by naming the continents, naming the countries in the United Kingdom, the capital cities and began by learning some of the counties too. We have also explored where some of the famous landmarks are in England and beyond too.

Full detailsIt’s been a wonderful week at Wilton Primary, lots of work done and with half-term and Halloween round the corner, things are really gearing up in the Academy.
The Choir are getting better each week and are ready for their big day on Tuesday 22nd October at the Choir Festival.
Year 5/6 have had a VERY busy week, first going to MFC Herlingshaw on Thursday afternoon to learn some new games and then to Dormanstown Primary Academy to understand about making Powerful Choices.
Lastly, today was “Show Racism the Red Card day” and all the children looked bright and colourful with lots of red on display.
The Assembly theme was about “Show Racism the Red Card” and why Racism should never be tolerated, the character focus was on Kindness and Collaboration.
For the final week of the Half-Term the Assembly theme is about Guy Fawkes and Bonfire safety. The character focus is Co-operation and Compassion.
We have noticed an increase in children arriving late this week. This has an impact on learning and also socially, as children do not like walking into the classroom late when everybody has started.

The children have been busy over the last few weeks. We have started our formal writing lessons and have been writing about fairytales and in particular the three little pigs.
Year 2 have been focusing on the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig and writing their own ending to the story. They have recently started writing instructions on how to build a house out of straw.
We worked practically to see step by step what we needed to include in our instructions and they are taking into account who the audience for this piece of writing might be.
In Maths both year groups have been working with the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Year 2 have been focusing on the difference between grouping and sharing.
In our foundation topic we have enjoyed learning about our local area and trying to remember our address in case we ever get lost. They have been using vocabulary such a
Birds Eye view and learning about compass points using the mnemonic of Naughty Elephants Squirt Water. This also allowed us to get a bit of movement into our day.
I’m sure you will agree it’s been a packed first half term and the children truly deserve their upcoming break.

Early years have been talking about their feelings. We read The Colour Monster story and related the colours to our emotions.
Our class bear Bob had his 3rd birthday last week. The children planned a party for him. They made shopping lists and wrote invitations to their own bears at home. The Reception children made a cake and nursery made sandwiches and jelly for the party.
This week we have been learning to retell Little Red Riding Hood. We have used the puppets and costumes. We have used our baking skills again to make cakes for grandma.
Outside we were given a huge red pallet and the children decided to build a fire engine with it.

Full detailsWhat a busy week Wilton has had! At the start of the week it looked like it would have been raining all week, but now the skies have cleared and given us all a good few days of sunshine.
Children from our Year 3/4 and Year 5 visited the Hill Street Centre to see the results of their meadow planting project started last year and take part in some amazing art workshops too.
Our EYFS group also had a visitor come along to celebrate his birthday and everyone brought their teddy bears along to take part and eat some yummy cake.
The Assembly theme was about the start of Black History Month and the importance it holds and impact it has. The character education was on Reflection and Determination.
Next week the Assembly theme is about World Mental Health day and how good Mental Health is important to everyone. The character education is Courage and Independence.
If you provide a packed lunch for your child please can we remind you of the following information:
Below is a reminder of the Nut Free school policy for the school.
All the above information is to ensure children have a healthy packed lunch whilst taking into account the safety of themselves and others.
We have noticed an increase in children arriving late this week. This has an impact on learning and also socially, as children do not like walking into the classroom late when everybody has started.
8.30am Gates open
8.35am Staff come outside and lines begin to go in.
8.40am. School starts. Arrival after this time is classed as late.
8.41 am- 9.10am Children receive a late mark in the register. L code
9.11am onwards – Children receive a U code which classes the lateness as an unauthorised half day absence. This will affect their attendance percentage.
We appreciate at times lateness may be due to a medical appointment. If medical evidence is seen, an M-code is used instead of a U code. This will authorise the absence, although the attendance percentage will still be affected.
Don’t forget to see reminders and stories about what your child is learning in school from Class Dojo.
It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.
Year 5/6 have had an extraordinarily busy start to the new year.
We had a fantastic few days at Peat Rigg – the children overcame fears, some tried new activities, some tried new food. They also made new friends and learned how to work together in a team with others. Some of them also learned the value of keeping their rooms TIDY!!! I wonder how many brought THAT particular skill home?
We then were very lucky with the weather for our cross-country competition. Many of the children opted to take part in the competitive races and beating personal bests.
We have had a visit from the POW representative looking at what skills they have gained in their lives which would help them achieve in the future. Interviews for this years POW ambassadors will take place on 10th October.
Finally, despite ALL these extra activities, the children have also achieved some learning! They have learned about Scandinavia in Geography and completed their baseline assessments this week.
This weeks best attendance goes to…..
19 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.
This week we had 66 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Amazing!
A huge WELL DONE to you all.
Can you get 100% next week?
Our lunches are served on a 3 week rota. Next week will be Week 3.

All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
