Wilton Expects Focus

You can tell it’s the first week back after Half-Term because the weather has been all over the place. But come rain or shine, the children continue to work hard and show their teachers how Wilton works for them.

The week started out with a full cast rehearsal, including the choir, on Tuesday afternoon and it was great to see how far children from across the entire trust have come since rehearsals started.

Wednesday Year 5/6 visited Normanby Cricket Club to take part in Dynamo cricket. They definitely got a real taste for cricket, including the rain, which stopped play. That didn’t stop them having fun though.

The Assembly theme this week was on World Environment and World Ocean’s day and how important they are to our planet. The character focus was on Kindness and Compassion.

Next week is Healthy Eating Week, the character focus is on Helpfulness and Determination.

Shrek the Musical

Only a couple of weeks left and tickets are still available for Shrek the Musical, performed by the children of the Tees Valley Trust, scan the QR code below or follow the link to book yours!

A Message about Attendance

8.30am Gates open
8.35am Staff come outside and lines begin to go in.
8.40am. School starts. Arrival after this time is classed as late.
8.41 am- 9.10am Children receive a late mark in the register. L code
9.11am onwards -Children receive a U code which classes the lateness as an unauthorised half day absence. This will affect  their attendance percentage.

We appreciate at times lateness may be due to a medical appointment. If medical evidence is seen, an  M-code is used instead of a U code.  This will authorise the absence, although the attendance percentage will still be affected.

Any 5 days of unauthorised absence in a 10 week rolling period will trigger a phone call and the start of involvement from the attendance team across Wilton and Dormanstown.

This can be combination of U-codes or full day absence.

From Monday, you will receive a weekly text message from the Department of Education stating how  many days absence your child has had this year. Please keep this to times your child is genuinely too ill to come to school.

Please help your child have the best start to the day by being on time. If you need any support or have  any questions then please contact the Academy to discuss it.

Class Dojo

Don’t forget to see reminders and stories about what your child is learning in school from Class Dojo.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

Parking around the School

Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day.  Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street,  the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children.

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?

You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends and is every day.

Attendance

Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.40am each day of their absence.

Please note if your child is later than 9.10am, it is counted by the DfE as a half day absence.

You can contact the office on 01642 453374.

This weeks best attendance goes to…..

Missed Learning

0.5 day of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 70 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Amazing!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Mrs Wardle EYFS Class Round Up

Before half term, Early Years were very surprised when they found a fairy door attached to our tree! We had been reading the story Ali and the Fairy Door, so the children decided it must be a magical door to where the fairy Ziggy lived.

They wrote her letters and notes asking her questions and left them at the door. They also made wands and potions. Ziggy replied answering there questions and left them some cupcakes to decorate. This week we have started our learning about minibeasts.

We have looked at bees, discovered how they make honey and tried some honey on toast. The children have been hunting for minibeasts everywhere and have found some unusual ones that we have been learning the names of.

We are looking forward to our minibeast visit and trip in the next few weeks.

Half Term Blog 23rd May

Wilton Expects Focus

And with that another half term has come and gone, that was quick, wasn’t it?

The children, as ever, worked their absolute socks off over the past few weeks and while the weather may have changed every day, the focus of the children always remained on their work.

The Year 3/4 children finished off their pedestrian training and the Choir get better every single day getting ready for Shrek.

The assembly theme this week was about Walk to School Week and the character focus was Caring and Compassion.

We hope everyone has an amazing half-term week and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 2nd June.

Year 5/6 Mrs Harding Class Round Up

It’s been a very busy half term for the children, starting with swimming when they came back after the Easter break. Lots of progress was made across the class and everyone did really well.

Last week the children also got to take part in a cricket day, taking advantage of the great weather, while it lasted.

Last week was also SATs week and all of the Year 6 children did so well, I am so very proud of each and every one of them for the hard work they’ve been putting in, to prepare and be ready for this and the resolve to get through their exams. I am also very proud of Year 5 for their support and consideration for their friends during the week as well.

We also had our friends from Go Well come in and let the children become Gladiators for the morning, trying out lots of physical challenges and having fun.

Today the Year 6 children had their special SATs lunch with a menu of their own choice and it went down an absolute storm!

On Tuesday, we had a visit from Steve who was helping us research the Geography and History of Eston Hills and the community surrounding it.

The children learned how the population of this area changed from approx 200 people to 5,500 due to the mining by Bolckow, Vaughan & Co Ltd. Children enjoyed learning about the geography and history of Eston including the mining and steelworks.

Another week done at the school and what can I say but how proud we all are about how hard all the children have worked this last week.

All the children and teachers were supporting our Year 6 children as they took their SATs exams this week and we are proud of every single one of them.

The Shrek Rehearsals are picking up pace with lots more practice to come before the big show in just over a months time!

The assembly theme this week was about Mental Health Awareness weeks theme of ‘Community’, the character focus was on Helpfulness and Collaboration.

For the final week of this very brief half term, it’s Walk to School Week, so let’s get those steps in! The character focus will be on Caring and Compassion.

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round Up

This term, although it has been very short, year 3/4 have worked very had once again.

The term began with us going swimming, the children all made excellent progress and it was wonderful to see some children reach their first goal and others stretch themselves even further.

In writing, we began writing a non-chronological report about the Ancient Egyptians. The children were able to compile all of their knowledge of our previous history project into a fantastic piece of writing. We are now writing a persuasive letter to Mrs Hood to persuade her to get things for our school. Hopefully, our persuasive writing will work!

In reading, we have been reading a report about the Mayans and we have retrieved information about them and this will support us in our future learning. We also learned lots of information about them because of what they left behind for archaeologists to discover. We are now reading, Bird Song and the children can’t wait to find out what the tragedy maybe in the book.

In maths, we have continued our learning about measures, we have learned about length, height, weight and capacity. We have been able o convert between different units of measurement, compare different measures and solve problems too.

In science, we finished our topic of forces and we have now moved onto our new topic about plants. We have started learning the parts of plants and why they are important to he life cycle of a plant.

In geography, we have been learning about mountains and how they are formed and what the water cycle is and why it is so important.

As part of our PSHE work, we have also discussed the importance of sleep. We have talked about why routines are important, not using screens before bed and what we can also drink to help us sleep better. We have further talked about the effects of a good nights sleep and how it can help us feel mentally better.

Wilton Expects Focus

It’s certainly been an interesting, if short, week at the Academy. The weather changing daily, let’s hope it stays bright and sunny for the rest of the School year. The children have been working hard, as ever, our Choir and cast members have been rehearsing very hard for the Shrek musical, tickets still on sale, and it’s going to be an amazing show.

The school celebrated VE day yesterday with a picnic lunch and lessons, making flags and learning about the importance of it in history.

Year 6 are preparing for their SATs which are next week, we wish them all the best of luck and we know they’ll do us all proud.

The assembly theme this week was about World Red Cross Day and the character theme was Kindness and Independence.

Next week is Metal Health Awareness week, with a special theme on ‘Community’, the character focus is Helpfulness and Collaboration.

8 day of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 71 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% when we return?

Year 1/2 Mrs Barron Class Round Up

Yesterday was been a special and exciting day in our school. The children have been finding out all about the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a fabulous picnic outside. They have learnt lots of things about what VE Day was for and why it is important to celebrate it even after all this time.

Now we are back in school after the Easter break the children have got straight back into their new topics.

In maths we have been revisiting place value and are moving on to the four operations. The children are working hard with Y1 learning to count on with greater confidence and Year 2 working out missing numbers in addition calculations.

In English, the children have really enjoyed learning about the Legend of the Loch Ness Monster. There has been its of debate about whether the legend is true or whether it has been embellished down the years. To support our reading into writing rationale, Year 2 have also been reading the Legend of Robin Hood. Again, the children have been forming very strong opinions regarding the characters and their actions.

Our foundation topic is Geography, and the children have been learning about the difference between weather and climate. They have remembered the work they have done on continents and have place them on a globe. They have identified the equator on the globe and understand the climate zones. They know that the UK is in the continent of Europe and that its climate is temperate. Watch out for the next blog which may include a weather forecast or two.

As the weather has been so lovely the children are finding afternoons warm and need to calm after lunch so they have been finding out more about meditation and breath work.

Just before our half term break the children took part in an Easter walk around the village showing off their Easter bonnets.

Diary Dates & Reminders

Welcome Back

We’re back! We hope everyone had an amazing Easter and enjoyed every bit of the lovely weather that was on offer.

The children have shown their dedication and hit the ground running with their learning and telling great stories about their holidays.

KS2 have been swimming every day this week, a great way to stay cool with the hot sun.

Our new lunches have been going down a storm, children trying new things and enjoying the food that was on offer.

The assembly theme this week was Welcoming everyone back and the character focus was Co-operation and Determination.

Next week the assembly theme is on World Red Cross Day and the important work they do. The character focus is on Kindness and Independence

End of Term Blog 10th April

Wilton wishes all our Families a Happy Easter

We’ve had an incredible term at the Academy since we came back at Christmas. It only felt like yesterday that everyone was singing Christmas Carols.

There has been so much happening at the Academy you can see some of the great stories on Class Dojo, including our Early Year group celebrating Chinese New Year and chasing down the Evil Pea!

Year 1/2 welcomed back Mrs Barron had a great time on World Book Day looking like Super Heroes and Princesses.

Year 3/4 took a trip to Boggle Hole and spent the night before heading down to the coastline and they’ve been keeping fit and active with all their sporting activities!

Lastly Year 5/6 have been great fun making their own cuddly bears as well as enjoying the Blaze pods and Silent disco along side the rest of the school.

It is also a time of sadness as we say goodbye to Miss Robinson, our teaching assistant in EYFS as she retires today. Everyone at the Academy, children, staff and families, will wish her the best as she enjoys her retirement. We’ll miss you Miss Robinson.

We look forward to seeing everyone back after the Easter Holidays on Monday 28th April.

Wilton Expects Focus

It’s been a very busy week at the Academy as we approach the last week before the Easter holidays.

We want to thank everyone who came to our Easter Coffee afternoon on Tuesday, it was a lot of fun and lots of prizes were won. At the end of the day we raised £235, which is an amazing amount!

On Thursday Year 5/6 took part in the NFL Flag festival, which you can read about below.

Our Assembly theme was on Eid al-Fitr and it’s importance to the Muslim faith, the character focus was Courage and Compassion.

For the Final week of Term the Assembly theme is on Easter and the Character focus is on Co-operation and Determination

Weekly Blog 28th March

Wilton Expects Focus

Spring is in the air and the good weather is (finally) here!

It’s been a very busy week at the Academy with our Y6 children taking their mock SATs and showing off how hard they’ve been working.

The Shrek Rehearsals are going strong and the choir sounds better every week after practicing.

Our assembly theme was on British Science week and our Character focus was Reflection and Collaboration.

Next week is Eid al-Fitr and the children will learn about this religious holiday and it’s importance to the Muslim faith. Our character focus is on Courage and Compassion

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.

2.5 day of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 71 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Absolutely Amazing!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Year 1/2 Mrs Barron Class Round Up

Its been a busy few weeks in the academy for year 1 and 2.

In Maths the children have been learning how to half a shape and an amount.  Year 2 have been introduces to the correct notation while Year 1 have been working more practically.

Two weeks ago it was British Science week and the children received a visit from one of our parents who works at Fuji Film in Billingham.

She told the children about her work at the plant and how they made medicine.  The children were able to carry out an investigation into filtration.  Using a solution of flour and water the children had to the best way to filter the flour from the water.  To do this they had to choose the most effective material from a selection including coffee filter, tissue, kitchen roll and cotton wool.

The children really enjoyed the opportunity to be Scientists for the day.

Just after that they had the chance to join Blaze pods.  This helped them develop teamwork, focus and mobility as they had to respond to their coloured light and switch it off.  We were lucky enough then on the afternoon to have a silent disco.

Wilton Expects Focus

Friday is here once again and it’s been an amazing week in the school.

Some of our KS2 children have been taking part in Bikeability and learning how to keep safe on very busy roads.

School Picture day was on Wednesday and they have already been sent out with the children to take home so parents can decide what pictures you would like.

Lastly, today is Red Nose Day with all the donations from children dressing up in red and looking amazing, we have raised £88.15! A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated.

The character focus this week was on Caring and Independence.

Next week is British Science Week and the character focus is on Reflection and Collaboration.

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round Up

This half term has been very busy! We have lots of exciting things happening but still lots of hard work has taken place too,

In writing, we started by writing a newspaper report about Krindlekrax and how he has been roaming the streets of Lazenby. We even gathered opinions of some of the residents of the village and they explained how scared they were!

In reading, we began by reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid and we all laughed out loud at certain parts. The children thoroughly loved comparing American and English terms throughout the book and understanding how Greg is rather mischievous throughout the book.

In maths, we completed some work on statistics and enjoyed reading different scales and keys to support us to get to the relevant answer. We have also looked in detail at shape, angles and different types of lines too.

In R.E, we have been we have been learning about Christianity, we began by learning about the Annunciation, Advent, Lent and Easter. We understood that because of all these events in the Christian religion is the reason why we celebrate different holy days throughout the year. We also made links to other religions such as some of the similarities to the religion of Islam.

As part of our history work, we have began learning about the Ancient Egyptians and we can’t wait to find out more!

As part of the computing curriculum, we have been learning how to use Scratch to create a series of backgrounds, sprites and link these together to tell a short story or interact with each other.

In French, we have continued learning about how we can ask others about their feelings and tell others about our own too.

Wilton Expects Focus

While the weather may have not been the best, it hasn’t stopped it being an amazing week at the Academy.

Starting off with a bang were children in Year 4, 5 & 6 from our Choir taking part in the Shine festival at Middlesbrough town hall. They performed amazing and some even said they were the best ones there.

Wednesday our Year 5/6 group visited PD Ports to take part in Classroom to Careers and understand what opportunities were available for them as they grow.

Thursday saw the entire KS2 visit our friends at Pennyman Primary to see Jeff Rich from Status Quo show off his skills on the drums before taking part themselves.

Lastly, today has been a very exciting day. The children have had lots of fun with Blaze pods in the morning and a Silent Disco this afternoon and between that we had some visitors from STEM come in and teach each class about filters and the different ways filters can affect Ph levels.

Class Assembly theme was about National Careers Week and the character focus was Helpfulness and Determination.

Next week theme is about Neurodiversity Week and how important understanding different people can be. It’s also Red Nose Day on Friday.

The character development focus next week is Caring and Independence.
