Wilton Expects Focus

What an amazing week it has been at Wilton Primary. Shrek Rehearsals are almost done (See below) and the children sound amazing as they always do, singing and performing and their costumes look fantastic!

Two of our students from Mrs Hardings class took part in naming of Discovery Academy and represented the school with pride.

EYFS had a visit from friends at Kirkleatham Owl museum on Wednesday. They met an owl, duck and other creatures of all shapes and sizes.

The Assembly theme this week was on Individual Liberty and how important it is as a core British value. The character theme was on Caring and Independence.

Next week it is School Diversity Week and learning about the tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, the character focus is on Reflection and Collaboration.

With the heat showing up along with the blazing sun we do ask if your child has a hat/cap that they bring it in, we have plenty of school hats for any who need them.

Shrek the Musical

It’s next week(!!!) and just a few tickets are still available for Shrek the Musical for the 1pm show, performed by the children of the Tees Valley Trust, scan the QR code below or follow the link to book yours!

A Message about Attendance

8.30am Gates open
8.35am Staff come outside and lines begin to go in.
8.40am. School starts. Arrival after this time is classed as late.
8.41 am- 9.10am Children receive a late mark in the register. L code
9.11am onwards -Children receive a U code which classes the lateness as an unauthorised half day absence. This will affect  their attendance percentage.

We appreciate at times lateness may be due to a medical appointment. If medical evidence is seen, an  M-code is used instead of a U code.  This will authorise the absence, although the attendance percentage will still be affected.

Any 5 days of unauthorised absence in a 10 week rolling period will trigger a phone call and the start of involvement from the attendance team across Wilton and Dormanstown.

This can be combination of U-codes or full day absence.

From Monday, you will receive a weekly text message from the Department of Education stating how  many days absence your child has had this year. Please keep this to times your child is genuinely too ill to come to school.

Please help your child have the best start to the day by being on time. If you need any support or have  any questions then please contact the Academy to discuss it.

Class Dojo

Don’t forget to see reminders and stories about what your child is learning in school from Class Dojo.

It also shows parents/carers what the children have been getting points for, including being on time, working hard during class and good manners to teachers and their friends.

Parking around the School

Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day.  Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street,  the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children.

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?

You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends and is every day.

Attendance

Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.40am each day of their absence.

Please note if your child is later than 9.10am, it is counted by the DfE as a half day absence.

You can contact the office on 01642 453374.

Second week in a row we have TWO classes taking best attendance this week……….

Missed Learning

1 day of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained. With most minor ailments, children can be in school, so we really encourage you to think about keeping your child at home.

100% Attendance

This week we had 73 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Awesome!!!

A huge WELL DONE to you all.

Can you get 100% next week?

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round Up

Although last half term was rather short, it was still a busy half term.

All children completed their pedestrian safety and are now able to cross the road safely, know where to cross the road and identify safer places to cross the road!

In English, we wrote letters to persuade Mrs Hood to get different things for our school, some even included electric scooters and a class pet for each classroom. We then moved on to writing Greek myths and legends and the children enjoyed creating their own creature to go in the story, planning and then writing their story.

In reading, we read persuasive letters and moved onto Greek Myths, during this time we had some very good discussions about the Greek Myths and also how some of the Gods got their own way and others were left out. Looking at various texts, we discussed similarities we find in many Greek Myths and Legends and looked for them in in new texts.

In maths, we continued our work on place value and many of us are very secure with our number knowledge and are able to compare, order and even round numbers to the nearest whole number. We then moved on to calculations and we have secured our knowledge of calculations and are able to apply our skills to multi-step problems. The year 4 children also have had a big focus on their times tables, as this half term the children have completed their official times table check and I am very proud of how well all year 4 conducted themselves and the effort they put into this.

As part of our history work, we have been learning about the Ancient Mayans, we have learned many interesting things about them including where they lived, how they lived, about their religions and how we are still able to know about them today because of the evidence they left behind.

In PSHE, we have focused on appropriate places of touch, the importance of sleep and how this affects our mental health and also about being kind and honest. We discussed how it is ok to make mistakes, but it is necessary to be honest about what we have done and then how we can learn from what we have done wrong.

Lots of children in the class have also been attending Shrek rehearsals and the children who are not in the performance have been learning about our world and why it needs looking after.
