Wilton Expects Focus

It’s been another busy week at Wilton Primary Academy and the children are showing no signs of slowing down, even as the Summer gets ever closer (should it ever appear at all!).

Some of our Year 5/6 children visited our friends over at Brambles Primary to take part in Maths in Motion and had an absolute blast.

Also children in KS2 took part in a cricket competition and unlike regular cricket, the weather held on long enough for everyone to have fun.

The assembly theme this week was on Healthy Eating Week and why it is important to have a balanced diet. The character focus was on Kindness and Determination.

Next week the children will learn about Individual Liberty and why it is one of the core British Values. They’ll also be working hard on their own, showing Independence but also Helpfulness to to others that are in need.

Parking around the School

Please could we remind you that parking outside of the school on Pasture Lane is not permitted. On the school side, this is clearly marked out as a no parking zone. This applies on a morning, home time and throughout the day.  Parking on the other side blocks the road and it makes it difficult for cars to pass and makes it unsafe for children. If you need to drive to school, please park on the High Street,  the Grange Estate or further round Pasture Lane to ensure the road and paths around the school grounds are clear and safe for adults and children. 

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round Up

In English, we ended the half term by completing our narrative based on a Greek Myth. Children were able to include vocabulary for effect and maintain the cohesiveness of their writing throughout. We then started this half term by creating a shape poem. The children thought about something that they think of during the summer, such as an ice- cream and produced a poem to reflect the shape of their object. We have recently started a new topic, where we will be writing a story based on a monster!

In reading, we read Dick Turpin and the children were very intrigued to find about the different people in the book and if they were telling the truth or a lie! We have also read a poem ‘Long Thin Poem’ again this in relation to our shape poetry and to begin with, no one could guess what the theme of the poem was!

In maths, we have been spending some time on measures and now the children are confident in reading scales, for weight and capacity and using the information displayed on the scales to answer a full range of questions. Recently, we have been completing weekly arithmetic tests and it has been lovely to see the children make progress in this area too. This week, we have also been looking at angles and turns, it has been a busy few weeks!

In science, have been looking at living creatures, how we can classify them into amphibians, birds, fish, mammals and reptiles. How we can classify them as their nutrition type and furthermore so, how we can classify them by their unique characteristics. The children are also able to explain the seven life processes in detail as to what all living things can do.

In French, we have continued learning about place names and revising what we have learned in the year. We are now able to write, read and speak confidently in French.

As part of our computing curriculum, we have been discussing and creating a poster show how we can stay safe online.

We have also been keeping a close eye on our meadow planting!

We have also been swimming and lots of have made great progress and began our swimming journey!

We certainly have been busy in year 3 /4!

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning?

You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school. This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends and will resume after Half Term.

Attendance

Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 8.45am each day of their absence.

16.5 days of missed learning occurred this week due to unauthorised absences. Unauthorised absences are for holidays, parents/carers not contacting the academy or any other unexplained

This week we had 70 children who achieved 100% Attendance for this week, which is Brilliant!

Nut Free Academy

A reminder to all parents we are a Nut Free Academy, please read below.

School Uniform and PE days

Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.

All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
