The children are starting to feel autumn creep in here at Wilton, but that isn’t stopping Year 5 & 6 who went to Redcar Rugby club this week and showed real Determination.
The assembly theme next week is about World Mental Health Day and the importance of how our mental health can affect our lives. The children will also be showing courage and focusing on Independence while they work.
Year 3 / 4 have had a fabulous start to the year and came back to school in September with a great attitude and as a result have worked hard in all curriculum areas.
In reading, we have been looking at alternate versions of fairy tales and we have read ‘Cinderella and the Comfy Trainer’. The children were able to recognise similarities and differences between the original fairy-tale and some children even used these ideas within their own piece of writing, where they had to write their own version of Cinderella. The children were able to use and apply known writing strategies to make their writing cohesive and engage the reader.
In maths, we started the year looking at place value, the value of digits, comparing numbers and adding ones, tens, hundreds and even thousands in year 4. The children have practised recording numbers, saying numbers and recognising numbers in different pictorial representations. We then moved onto addition and subtraction, children began by adding using apparatus to support their thinking, working with partners to explain the process and finally into formal calculations.
As part of our geography topic, we have been learning about Europe, the children have been learning about capital cities, languages spoken in different European countries and the currency (mostly euros) that is used. The children expanded their knowledge by creating a travel brochure and found out further interesting facts about the different countries, such as those closer to the equator are warmer and those further away, are cooler. They then presented their information using Keynote to the rest of the class, to develop their skills in computing also.
In PSHE, the children have been discussing friendship and respect, they have talked about what a good friend is, what a good friend looks like and how in turn friends show respect.
The children have also thoroughly enjoyed working with a partner in gymnastics to create symmetrical and asymmetrical balances when creating timed and sequenced routines.
Furthermore, they loved getting hot and sweaty on National Fitness Day, which in turn made their hearts beat faster!

This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.
It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.
