Wilton Expects Focus

There is not long left now as we approach the last few weeks of the school year.

The children have been working really hard learning about Tolerance of other faiths and beliefs and why they are important for School Diversity Week.

They have also been showing great work in Independence.

Next week it’s the NHS anniversary and we will be focusing on caring and Collaboration.

Year 3/4 Miss Norton Class Round up

In writing, the children have continued with the narrative theme. This half-term the children were given a story started and then they were asked to finish it. The children needed to decide how their dragon would be trained and ultimately how it would become the hero of the story! In reading, we have been reading How to Train your Dragon, the children have enjoyed learning about the different characters and the different types of dragons. We have even been speaking Dragonese!

In maths, we began half the half-term by learning about statistics and how they can be presented in a range of forms, including tally charts, pictograms, bar charts, tables and line graphs. The children learned how to tackle statistic style questions, especially by annotating what they know from graphs. We then re-visited fractions, the children had remembered lots from the previous learning blocks and they can now count in tenths and decimals!

In history, the children have been learning about the Egyptians. The children have learned about the importance of the River Nile, who King Tutankhamun was and why the discovery of his tomb was so important and the process of mummification. The children have been discussing what life was like for Egyptians and how it certainly is different today!

In science, we completed our topic on plants, the children learned how seeds are pollinated, the different ways seeds can be dispersed and how if given the right conditions, plants can germinate. The children were able to describe each of these processes in detail and in particular the different ways of seed dispersal.

We have also been continuing to learn French this half term, we have been adding to our personal booklets and they can now even say when their birthday is in French.

Breakfast Club

Did you know we do a breakfast club every morning? You can bring your child in, knowing they’ll get a good breakfast before they start school.

This is open to everyone and can be booked in the clubs section on the school gateway app.

It costs £1.20 for each morning your child attends.

This will continue in the new term.

Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 9am each day of their absence. You can contact the office on 01642 453374.

Golf Fore All are offering free sessions every Tuesday and Friday for anyone aged between 6-16 until the end of December.

Passion for Fashion

CBBC are looking for budding young designers aged 10-14 years old, (they must be aged 11 by September 1^st 2023) 

In each episode we will see young creative minds come together to create bold and colourful outfits reusing, re-claiming and upcycling fabulous fashion by using only vintage, second-hand and sustainable materials. 

The children will need to be great designers but do not necessarily have to be great with a sewing machine as they’ll be paired with a creative who can help them cut/sew/stitch/paint their outfits within a few hours!

School Uniform and PE Days

Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.

All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
