The children have been showing off their hard work in Independence.. The assembly theme this week was about the Chinese New Year. We also had a special assembly about the different kinds of guitars and the different sounds they make.
Next week the children will be demonstrating teamwork and collaboration.
Year 5/6 have been very busy since returning to school.
History
We have been studying Ancient Greece and the children were very impressive with their skills at interpreting Ancient Greek pottery. They also investigated various Ancient Greek Gods and enjoyed guessing from their images, what they were the God of.
Art
We have also started looking at our Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and mixed colours using only primary colours and white and black.
Sustainability Project
We have also had a very exciting time thinking about the future of Middlesbrough and how we can make Middlesbrough a Sustainable town. We will be visiting Teesside University in February with other schools to look at this project further.
Power of Women
Finally, 4 of our children attended their first POW session yesterday and had a fantastic time meeting inspirational women from different areas of industry.
Attendance every day is vital for your child’s progress unless they are too unwell to learn. It is your responsibility to inform the academy if your child is going to be absent by 9am each day of their absence. You can contact the office on 01642 453374.
Congratulations to this weeks winners……..Y5/6!!
On Monday there is a special ‘Chinese New Year’ themed lunch menu, this is open to all children, even those who normally have packed lunches. Otherwise next week will be week 1 . Please discuss this with your child to help them with their choices.
Please make sure that all items of clothing, including coats and packed lunch bags are clearly labelled with children’s names, so it is easy to find their owners.
All children have been provided with a t-shirt and shorts in a bag for PE lessons but they need to have their own trainers/plimsols in school please. Plimsols will be provided if needed. As the weather is changing, you may want to send in a tracksuit for children to wear outside during PE lessons.
