In science this term, year 3/4 have been learning about teeth, the importance of looking after them and what can happen if we don’t look after them. We carried out an investigation using eggs (the shell in replacement of the enamel on our teeth) to see what happens when we eat or drink sugary drinks and the effect of not brushing them. The children were quite shocked by the results!
The children also had the opportunity to have a zoom call with the author, Lucy Strange and they had the chance to ask questions and have them answered. They were also extremely lucky to have Dan Smith, author of Dunwick Farm, who came into the academy and read part of one of his books to us. This was a rather scary extract, where not only the children jumped and screamed!
In art we have explored the work by Claude Monet and how he used impressionism to create his masterpieces. The children were only allowed to use the three primary colours (red, blue and yellow) to mix and create their colours to pain with. We then explored different techniques to reflect different aspects of the painting. Furthermore, the children took their own pictures then using their imagination and the impressionism technique to create their own masterpiece!
We are excited to share with you that the Academy now uses School Gateway. After many requests for online payment options – this is now available via this brand new app! This will be the hub of all school related communication, club bookings and trip information. In order to stay up to date with what’s going on at school make sure you download the app for free. Letters have been sent out with instructions, but if you have any problems please contact the office.
Next weeks menu will be week 1
As we are all aware how expensive eating out can be, please see below for good deals on children’s meals over the summer holidays.
As part of Men’s Health Week, we are running an Eventbrite session explaining on Thursday 21st July 4.00-5.00 on how both Kooth.com and Qwell.io can help and support males. The session will also include discussion around how both services open up accessible ways to both receive and offer support to other males who may have been through similar lived experiences.
