As part of British Science week, the children from reception to year 6 took part in a STEM day. They were involved in various activities including finding out about Crude Oil, where it comes from, how do we extract why we need it and what it is used for.

The children had opportunities to work with their peers to construct oilrigs using spaghetti and marshmallows. They worked together sharing and discussing ideas and having fun.

Later in the day, they looked at plastic, its uses, cost and benefits. They found out about recycling through a game called hidden treasure.

The children finished off the day by designing a new product from plastic, their ideas were very interesting. They worked practically, developing their curiosity, asking questions, rising to challenges and having fun.
